Little Busters! Review (First Half)

Studio: J.C Staff
Adapted From: Visual Novel (Game)
Genre: Comedy, Action, Romance, Drama, Tragedy(in one way)
Plot Summary: Little Busters is an adaptation of Key's romance adventure visual novel of the same name. Riki Naoe was orphaned when his parents died, but his depression is slowly lifted when he befriends a group of kids calling themselves the Little Busters. The series takes place during his second year of high school.

My Review: I've always looked forward to an anime adaptation of this game. When i first played the game it was pretty much only 70%ish translated until i finished the 30% by guessing the last choices without a walkthrough for the end.... 2 words ka---boom. Also pretty fun due to the mini games: baseball, battles, and other small type mini games. Usually if you played and/or beat the game 100% through you would know how the story would go and how the route is. Still i say i should do like a half review on all animes to be honest... since it can go good at first but it depends on the end results. I am glad it got an anime adaptation even if they mess up the anime version i know the true story... meaning you should play the game since its already translated 100%.....except the Ecstasy version.

Art Style and Visual Effects:

The Art style isn't really bad for especially for J.C Staff doing the anime adaptation. There is always that one thing i wish this anime was done by.....Kyoto Animations.... sadly i cant be too picky when it comes to animation studios picking up animes they will work on but ill just let it go and watch until the end. If you compare the game and the anime i like the game animation characters better... dunno its probably i am more use to the game then the anime. This is why ill probably do a "After Review" once the anime finishes!

There really hasnt been any visual effects in the anime so far but i do expect some in the later run. So mostly the judgement score goes by the art.

Story Setting:

One thing i like how J.C Staff did was they started the story exactly when the game started. From this point on your game knowledge kicks in what the studio had to cut out and take their pick of choices. Somewhat you can tell what they cut out to get more screening time for more scenes but i think its a good choice. For example they cut down the battle mini game with Rin into at least 10 seconds through speaker phone. You can tell they use the visual novel cause you hear and "item" used in the background and it was fast forward skip. It would be interesting how the battle mini game would look if it were shown in animation... technically it was shown in episode 2 with Masato and Kengo battling with a Ping Pong Paddle against Hand Soap which ended less then 5 seconds.

There only has been 2 episodes so far but until the anime ends i can give a final review. I do recommended watching if you like "Key" cause they always have a theme for their projects afterall.

But anyways its really anything goes at this point i would suggest either playing the game if you haven't to get a inside view on what to expect. But you already played the game you should know whats to come except you won't know how the studio plans to arrange it. Compare to how Kyoto Animation did Clannad in 2 seasons while putting against a jigsaw puzzle into a slot to complete the picture. Though this is probably spoilers but during their preview ads it seem hinted they'll reveal all the heroine characters routes before hitting the true route.

Hopefully its not like Amagami where each heroine had 4 episodes to tell their story then a new season giving 2 episodes...

Voice Acting / Music:

The Voice Acting.... is the original cast from the game except 3 characters had to be replace or be voiced by someone else but that doesn't matter at least its mostly the original cast!

Hikaru Midorikawa as Kyōsuke Natsume
Tomoe Tamiyasu as Rin Natsume
Yui Horie as Riki Naoe
Keiko Suzuki as Haruka Saigusa
Naomi Wakabayashi as Kudryavka Noumi
Natsumi Yanase as Komari Kamikita
Nobutoshi Canna as Masato Inohara
Ryouko Tanaka as Yuiko Kurugaya
Sora Tokui as Sasami Sasasegawa
Yuiko Tatsumi as Mio Nishizono
Yusei Oda as Kengo Miyazawa
Yuu Kamonomiya as Kyōsuke Natsume (young)
Ai Nonaka as Sakiko Watanabe
Akemi Kanda as Rei Kawagoe
Ryou Hirohashi as Yukari Nakamura

With Yui Horie voicing Riki the Main Character: Technically its not a bad choice to have Yui Horie voice the male lead but there were times inside my head that they couldve stick with the usual voices...with that being said expect i get the understanding you can't have Tomoe Tamiyasu voice 3 characters at once in an anime adaptation. So, its not really a bad choice still and sounds close how Tomoe plays Riki in the game version.

Sora Tokui replacing Tomoe's other character when i watch the first episode with her voicing the character.... it didn't even seem like Tomoe's voice was replaced at all....it sounds so close to the Sasami character as if you were playing the game still....though the laugh is annoying as usual heh.

Now Yuiko Tatsumi replacing the original voice of Mio is sad but i won't judge now until her character appears till then. I do wish the original voice of Mio to give a successful birth for her child.

Tomoe Tamiyasu.... Protector of the Neku's and etc the main female lead. Its pretty interesting how her character will develop in the anime. Not much to say but expect good expectations on the inside story.

Other voices i await their moment of glory to bring some laughter, good times, and memories as if you were still in high school.

Oh the Music in the anime is the same as the Visual Novel so pretty much will sum up the characters themes and etc. Sorry i gave a lame answer for the music since its pretty obvious how the studio will use the music from the original game obviously.

Rating: 10/10

Game,Manga, Light Novel:

I would really recommended playing the game since its fun due to the mini games: battles, baseball game, and other events. Since the anime adaptation is based on the game you should expect lack of how much will be cut off in the end. Every character as you go in-depth has a deep story behind their own shadow. Basically you'll enjoy the 70% of game with comedy and fun until we get to the conclusion of which Heroine you choose. However, between 60-70% does start showing some signs before hitting the Heroine's actual route.

The True Route which i will not spoil it... in the game is pretty long so this draws the line how J.C. Staff will conclude it.

Key did make a Ecstasy version for Little Busters! which contains "somewhat" H scenes. But you get 3 additional Heroines to go for. However, it is not translated yet for the 3 Heroine's parts and the extra dialogue added during conversation scenes during the game.

Rating: 10/10

Personal Opinion:

This has been something i expected to watch after completing the game the first time when it was not finished translated....then i completed it again while translated and felt Key does an amazing job with their choice of theme and story.

You have either have played the game or played previous Key games to understand....well technically you don't... go to tumblr and watch ppl post gifs and screams of agony to show how sad they are.

Would I recommended watching the anime: Yes
Would I recommended playing the Visual Novel: Yes

Remember until you get to episode 10ish or somewhat the Anime is still boring cause its like a build up type of thing... if you expected some sort of action type thing to happen....go rewatch bleach.

Rating: 10/10

Overall:  9.5/10

The overall rate can change once the anime hits its conclusion point so don't worry about the number much.
